The Creature Conservancy (TCC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is committed to our mission of “Conservation through Education”. We house rescued/surrendered exotic animals, injured non-releasable wildlife, and some captive-born residents. We are currently hiring for a Camp Director.
The TCC Camp Director will be responsible for our summer camp program but will be a part of the Conservation Educator team during the rest of the year by helping with animal husbandry and education programs (field trips, private tours, birthday parties, etc.). This position will start part-time but will turn to full-time once the camp program starts. This position is a permanent position.
-Create, modify, and implement thematic lessons and presentations for K-12 grade aged children using zoo exhibits, hands-on activities, crafts, and more.
-Ensure a fun, educational, and safe environment for children - including following COVID-19 safety guidelines.
-Incorporate best practices in formal and non-formal education and model best practices in teaching/presentation techniques and group management.
-Maintain an organized classroom, schedule activities, keep inventory and obtain supplies as needed.
-Lead a team of educators (1 camp assistant and 2 education interns) to ensure effective programming.
-Ensure the camp license is up to date and proper protocols are followed.
-Ensure high standards of welfare are maintained through animal husbandry, enrichment, and training.
-Other duties as assigned.
An ideal candidate:
-Must be 21 years of age.
-Has had experience working with children or young adults.
-Has knowledge of animals, wildlife conservation, biology, or other natural sciences.
-Has experience in public speaking.
-Is willing to go through a background check.
