Description
Grand Canyon University is seeking a Graduate Assistant. The Graduate Assistant of the Campus Garden will assist in overseeing the Campus Garden within the Outdoor Recreation Program. Responsibilities: Assist with hiring, training, and supervision of all campus garden student staff. This includes development of different training pieces and oversight of meetings. Discipline and counsel as needed. Ensure campus garden area and equipment is in a clean and safe condition. Apply ethical organic/sustainability practices to the garden. Lead and facilitate others in leading regular on site educational opportunities for gardeners. Enforce all campus garden policies and procedures. Update campus garden policies and follow industry standards. Provide courteous assistance to all participants using the campus garden. Develop campus garden schedule of activities, including classes, special events, and adopt-a-plot Coordinate scheduling of campus garden staff. Responsible for following Outdoor Recreation and University safety procedures and protocols Work with the Outdoor Recreation Manager and Marketing team to create marketing and advertising to promote the campus garden and its programs. Attend and participate in all meetings, workshops and retreats required by this position Create and maintain documents relating to the campus garden policies and procedures Have a good understanding of all job descriptions for campus garden employees. You may need to perform these duties or act in these roles at any time. Be available for weekends and evenings. Responsible for maintaining revenue records and meeting these goals. Create reports including Revenue, participant rosters and any other data analytics that would provide the ability for management to make data driven program decisions Coordinates with the Outdoor Recreation Manager in equipment purchase and budget planning. Assist with Student Affairs special events as assigned. Post all classes/special events on Fusion. Perform other duties as requested by professional staff. Occasionally drives passenger van for various purposes. Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
Qualifications
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Agronomy, Horticulture, Botany, or related field. Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Must be able to drive outside the State of Arizona in accordance with GCU driving requirements. Must be able to pass pre-employment background check(s). Must be able to work flexible schedule which includes evenings and weekends Preferred Qualifications: Two Year’s Relevant Work Experience (Urban Farm, Community Garden) or have a strong background in urban agriculture or gardening.
