- Description
- Selected volunteer will assist experienced staff with capturing and radio collaring Canada lynx for 30 days on the Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge. Exact beginning and end dates are TBD and will fall between Feb 2 and March 31, 2023. Field work will involve daily operation of snow machines and setting, maintaining and checking live traps for lynx. Field housing consists of small remote cabins without running water and no phone/internet service. Cabins are heated by wood stove and a propane cook stove is provided. Typical temperatures are 0 to -30F, but cold as low as -50F should be expected.
- Qualifications
- Key skills required for the position include a positive attitude and the ability to live in close proximity to colleagues with little privacy. Applicants must be able to use GPS units and must have the physical ability to operate snowmachines, shovel heavy snow, and hike long distances in extreme cold.
