Come spend your summer and fall in beautiful Vermont! Vermont Youth Conservation Corps is hiring for our carpentry (Build) pro crew. This crew will be made up of a Leader and three Members, supported by our Build Project Supervisor. This Crew will work on the construction of a 4-season, off-grid backcountry hut at Grout Pond—measuring and cutting lumber, framing walls, using pneumatic tools, and high fiving from a distance.
Dates: June through October
Schedule: 8 days on, 4 days off, repeated throughout season
Compensation: $580/week for Member, $625 – 675/week for Leader
Positions are filled on a rolling basis, apply before May 17th.
Required for all applicants:
-Be at least 18 years of age (there is no upper age limit)
-Openness to meeting new people, working hard outside, providing and receiving feedback, and learning and growing.
-Ability to adapt to change and move outside of comfort zones
-Willingness to work hard, in all types of weather and environments
-CPR Certification & Wilderness First Aid (if needed, COVID permitting, VYCC provides a WFA Course pre-season)
-Applicants must have readily available access to personal quarantine space in Vermont and a way to get to that space, in case they need to leave the field due to COVID-19 concerns. During your application process, we will talk through some various options you have to meet this requirement
-Willingness to undergo a criminal background check
-Ability to travel to project sites throughout the state
-Exceptional time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail
-Minimum 1 year experience in residential construction or similar field/trade
-Ability to read schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, and building plans
-Ability to teach proper power tool use including miter saw, table saw, drills, drivers, nailers, and other common construction tools
-Some prior carpentry, building, or trades experience
-Knowledge and experience with hand and power tools
-Interest in pursuing career in building trades work, design, architecture, weatherization, etc.
