Casper Mountain Science Program (CMSP) instructors lead small groups of Natrona County School District students visiting our multi-acre outdoor campus on Casper Mountain (approx. 8000 ft. elevation). Our six-instructor team lives on site and works to inspire young people to learn in the outdoors while developing an appreciation for science. CMSP offers both single day programs and multi day (overnight) programs to K-12 students. Students visiting are typically between 4th and 8th grade and instructors teach lessons designed by our staff to meet the Wyoming State Science Standards and to develop students’ connection to the natural world. While some activities with students are done indoors, a significant portion of the teaching is outside on our forested campus. When in the outdoor environment interns may be exposed to inclement weather, uneven terrain, and potentially dangerous plants and wildlife, so extra safety precautions and an awareness of the surroundings are required. Most work with students is done Monday through Thursday, with additional training and presentations in schools done on Fridays. The hours per day vary depending on the type of program we are providing. Instructors rotate overnight chaperoning duties when students stay overnight. Small “homework" assignments, readings, and other side projects are regularly assigned. Weekends provide opportunities to explore the outdoor recreation on Casper Mountain and around the state of Wyoming. Housing is provided for instructors on our campus, which is located within ten minutes of numerous mountain-biking, trail-running, and hiking trailheads, Nordic ski trails, a downhill ski area, and several county parks. Casper Mountain is within an hour drive of several fly-fishing, paddling, and rock climbing destinations, and many other outdoor adventures.
We hire enthusiastic individuals who are interested in exploring place-based science education while improving their teaching skills and spending time in nature. Interns are typically (but not always) recent college graduates with majors in science, K-12 education, outdoor education, environmental studies, or related fields. Some experience working with K-12 students is preferred but not required. Minimum age required is 18. An interest in place-based education is a must. This is a two-part application. First, apply online at Look at the top banner of the site and click on "Careers." Look under "Apply for Vacancies" and click on "View by Location." Job will be posted under Casper Mountain Science Program as " CSPR MTN SCIENCE INTERN INSTRUCTOR." Also, please send a letter of interest and resume to Carolyn Jacobs at
