- Description
- Buck N Buffalo Whitetails is looking for a hard-working individual to join our team this summer. Buck N Buffalo Whitetails is a 1,000+ acre ranch with breeding pens for whitetails and exotics, in addition we offer premier hunting on our ranch. Our ranch is centrally located in Paige, about an hour east of Austin and an hour west of College Station. Our intern would be assisting the team with day-to-day operations on the farm. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: • Bottle raising and socializing with fawns • Tagging and tattooing fawns • Performing physical exams, administering medications, and behavioral observations • Checking and ensuring herd health • Record keeping • Overall up-keep of the pens and facility (mowing, weed-eating, cleaning, etc) • Cleaning water troughs • Feeding the herd and filling feeders in pens This internship will provide a variety of wildlife experiences both in the deer pens and throughout the ranch. One of the main focus of this internship is bottle feeding and fawn care. We start bottle feeding our fawns at 7AM, then every four hours, four times a day. Intern will be responsible for mixing milk and prepping bottles for each feeding, assist with bottle feeding, and cleaning bottles after each feeding. A typical day starts with prepping bottles at 6:30AM (depending on how many fawns we have, may have to start earlier), start bottle feeding at 7AM, then cleaning the bottles once finished feeding. After bottle feeding, we will head out to the pens and start checking the herd, checking on fawns, tagging/tattooing any new fawns. Once finished with herd check, maintenance of the pens begins. This will include mowing, weed-eating, feeding, cleaning water troughs, and various other duties. In addition to morning herd checks, we also will check in the late afternoons, and then typically the last duty of the day is 7PM bottle feeding. This is a full-time summer internship with limited days off. Long hours are often the norm including early morning and late nights in hot Texas summers and in various weather conditions. Housing is provided on the ranch, a one-bedroom, one bath style house to yourself. Must keep housing/living space clean and have own transportation.
