- This position oversees a cross-functional, ecologically-focused workgroup within the Planning and Special Projects Team (PSP). PSP leads management planning, project implementation, and evaluation of conservation efforts within the Natural Areas Department, as well as initiatives across the City of Fort Collins organization. This position will drive conservation efforts by providing expert guidance and technical support, while implementing a robust project management framework that enhances ecological systems on innovative projects. Key responsibilities include leading the planning and implementation of ecological restoration projects, as well as relationship-building and collaboration with people and organizations from varied backgrounds and perspectives. The overall goal is to support the Natural Areas Department’s mission to conserve and enhance lands with natural resource, agriculture, and scenic values, while providing meaningful education and appropriate recreation opportunities. This position is suited for a natural resource professional with a talent for inclusive and effective project management.
- Qualifications
- Effective project management skills and demonstrated experience managing all phases of complex infrastructure projects, including ability to select and direct work of outside contractors to ensure project goals and deliverables are met Knowledge of current research, conservation, and restoration methods, specifically related to grassland, foothill, and Mountain West riparian ecosystems Knowledge of conservation challenges faced by and innovative approaches taken by urbanizing cities similar to the City of Fort Collins Ability to provide expert guidance and technical support to the City organization with respect to ecological elements of conservation management Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with multiple interest groups, public agencies, and individuals with varied backgrounds and perspectives Demonstrated ability to apply best practices around diversity, equity, and inclusion to build partnerships and meaningfully engage the public Ability to work independently to find creative solutions to problems Ability effectively represent the City of Fort Collins and provide leadership to long-term interagency programs and projects
