- Description
- The tree inspector assists the city forester with the implementation of the plant pest program. Flexible start date - mid to late May 2023. The work schedule will generally be Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. This seasonal position is eligible for a $.50 / $1.00 per hour bonus program. Bonus amounts are based on the number of hours worked while in the seasonal role. Full bonus criteria and eligibility details will be provided to all finalists. Duties/Responsibilities Essential Job Functions: Inspecting community trees. Identifying and recommending control measures for tree disorders/diseases. Communicating with residents about Minnetonka's forestry program. Inspecting tree and stump removals. Providing general care for trees. Other Job Functions: Assist with administrative and GIS tasks. Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
- Qualifications
- Minimum Job Qualifications: Ability to identify trees and diagnose Dutch elm disease and oak wilt. Ability to take accurate field notes including mapping. Capable of working with small tools and reading maps. Detail oriented and ability to pass the Minnesota State Tree inspector examination within 2 weeks of employment. Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to provide excellent customer service to residents and area businesses. Must be at least 18 years of age. Possesses a valid driver's license and provides work-related transportation. Desired Job Qualifications: Education in forestry or natural resources with completed courses in dendrology, plant identification, forest pathology, or entomology; Forestry or natural resource field experience; Able to identify most Minnesota trees; A Minnesota certified tree inspector; Experience with ArcMap; and Able to work for 6 months, approximately May through October.
