Sapelo Sea Farms is looking for clam aquaculture technicians to work in the commercial clam industry. The position is a 12-week internship starting in July or ASAP. Interns will work on the water, in the mud flats, and on the dock at Sapelo Sea Farms for the duration of the internship. The job requires applicants to be able to work long hours in all weather conditions and to be physically fit. This is a full-time position (40+ hours per week) with overtime pay for all work exceeding 40 hours a week. Free individual housing is available. Based on performance, long-term employment opportunities may be offered at the end of the internship period. Job duties include: -Being in the water pumping clam or seed bags with water to remove mud, lifting bags onto the boat, and stacking the bags -Grading seed based on size -Building belts of bags to place nursery or seed into -Working in the clam room to grade clams by size, catch bags, and check bags for empty shells -Riding on the airboat to roll nursery or seed out on the mudflats -Driving boats to the to mudflats where clams are located -Various other tasks that need completed around the docks
Minimum Qualifications: - Must be able to lift 50+lbs repeatedly - High school diploma or GED -Working long hours - Must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions - Must be able to take direction - Must have reliable transportation - Must be willing to work on a boat or in the water for the majority of the work day Preferred qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree - Experience operating boats or other watercraft
