Description
Two field technicians and one crew leader are needed for marsh bird research conducted through the University of Delaware. The research will be occur along Delaware Bay and housing will be provided, likely in Dover, DE. The successful applicants will assist in the capture and banding of Clapper Rails, the deployment of VHF and GPS tags, the tracking of tagged rails, and the monitoring of rail nests. Nest searching will be conducted both on foot and via drone thermal imagery.
Qualifications
Ideal applicants will have prior experience in nest searching, bird banding, telemetry, and/or collecting vegetation data. Crew leader applicants with previous banding experience will be prioritized. Experience with boats is also highly desired. All applicants must have a valid driver’s license, the ability to adjust to varying schedules during the field season, and a willingness to work in hot, buggy marshes both on foot and from boats. The position will run from late April/early May to early August with the possibility of an extension until early October.
