Applications are currently being solicited for a communications administrator to work with researchers affiliated with the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS) at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. We are a community of researchers focused on all aspects of quantitative modeling in the life sciences.
The work will involve helping to create and managing the content and presentation of the website, social media, and external communication platforms (e.g., YouTube) for all Center activities. The person in this role will also be responsible for outreach communication, such as writing and circulating regular newsletters and updates, submitting requests to external forums to announce/highlight activities and opportunities at the center, and writing press releases about Center activities. This person in this role will also help direct people who wish to work with the NIMBioS to the right contact for specific needs and will also play a supportive role in administrative project management tasks involving communication related to research efforts.
A successful candidate should have some relevant subject matter expertise in mathematical modeling sufficient to understand the nature of research, education, and outreach efforts underway at NIMBioS.
A candidate should have excellent organizational and communication skills and experience working with researchers in a STEM field.
BA/BS degree in any field requiring written communication
Strong communication skills with experience in a variety of communication platforms (e.g., in-person, direct correspondence, social media, web content, etc.)
Ability to tailor messages to a diversity of audiences (e.g., researchers, stakeholders, students, the public, etc.)
Ability to communicate with diverse and multidisciplinary, STEM-focused teams and help them craft engaging messages about their ongoing effort
Ability to work independently and set priorities and goals
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
Experience with/understanding of STEM research efforts
Experience with graphic design and visual communication
Experience with social media
