Travel the Lone Star State and improve the region's parks, trails, and public lands on a Conservation & Disaster Crew! Term Dates: 01/24/2022 - 7/22/2022 Application Due Date: 12/27/21 The Conservation & Disaster (C&D) AmeriCorps program with the Texas Conservation Corps (TxCC) is an opportunity to serve on a variety of conservation projects throughout Texas & help communities recover from natural disasters. Crews will spend their season completing a variety of conservation projects throughout the region. Projects may include trail construction & improvement, habitat restoration, invasive plant removal, wildland fuel reduction, & more. Crews also remain on call to help communities impacted by natural disasters. We encourage people of all identities & experience levels to be a part of TxCC to help nurture the productivity & resilience of diversity in our community. As a Conservation & Disaster Crew Member, you will have the opportunity to grow your conservation skills through your term with TxCC! Responsibilities -Construct & maintain trails -Erosion control -Construction & upkeep of public land features -Remove invasive plant species -Wildland fuel reduction -Habitat restoration projects -Maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment -Camp for up to 10 days at a time -Assist with camp duties such as cooking & dishes Benefits $1,550 per month living allowance -AmeriCorps Education Award -Non-private student loan deferment -Wilderness First Aid & CPR Certification -FEMA Certifications -Technical & fundamental skills training -Health insurance -Travel & camping opportunities -Opportunity to network with partner agencies such as the National Park Service, US Forest Service, and Texas Parks & Wildlife
Requirements/Qualifications -High school diploma or GED -Between the ages of 18-28 -US Citizenship or lawful permanent US Resident -Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check -Ability to hike 3-10 miles per day in rugged terrain, while carrying tools -Ability to work outdoors in all weather types while doing hard, often repetitive, labor with hand & power tools -Ability to be away on overnight trips for up to 10 days at a time -Ability to work with a diverse group of people -Commitment to complete the entire term of service Application Instructions If you are interested in learning more about our opportunities or you are ready to apply, please visit our website.
