- The Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management (NREM) within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University is seeking a Research Scientist I to work, under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), on a project whose objective is to develop genomic tools for white-tailed deer. The successful candidate will communicate with state natural resource agencies to coordinate collection of hunter-harvested deer samples, as well as conduct lab work including solution preparation, DNA extraction, DNA quantification, and agarose gel electrophoresis. The individual selected for this position will also organize, maintain, and map records of deer samples using Excel or Access and GIS. The successful candidate will work with the PI to select samples for a SNP array, analyze SNP data, and communicate results to state natural resource agencies. This is a 1 year position from January-December 2021. - Experience managing and organizing data in Excel or Access Experience using GIS Experience in lab work including preparation of solutions, DNA extraction, agarose gel electrophoresis Experience analyzing SNP data Degree in wildlife biology or related field
