The Delta Stewardship Council, a California State agency, is seeking three prominent scientists to serve on the Delta Independent Science Board, which provides oversight of the science that underlies environmental decision-making in California’s Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The incumbents will collaborate alongside national and international scientists to produce influential reports that support the adaptive management of the largest estuary on the west coast of North America. Desired areas of expertise include water resources engineering, hydrodynamics, climate science, algal or invasive species ecology, or ecotoxicology. Applications are due by November 30, 2021, for the first round of review, but will be accepted until February 1, 2022, or until the positions are filled. Members are paid for their work at an hourly rate of $150 via a contract with the Council and are reimbursed for travel expenses to attend meetings in Sacramento, California. Be a nationally or internationally prominent scientist with appropriate expertise to evaluate the broad range of scientific programs that support adaptive management of the Delta. 2. Not be directly affiliated with a program or agency subject to the review activities of the Delta ISB. Candidates must be able to... • Participate in most Delta ISB meetings, including travel to in-person meetings; • Contribute to Delta ISB work products; • Collaborate with colleagues from other disciplines; and • Be comfortable reviewing materials from areas outside their expertise.
