DENR Fisheries Technician II
The Native Village of Eyak is accepting applications for a DENR Fisheries Technician II.
The position is full time, seasonal (April-July)
This is a mid-level fisheries technician position for the Native Village of Eyak-DENR, Cordova, Alaska. The positions will support project managers in continuing a long-term salmon monitoring program to estimate the annual in river abundance of Copper River Chinook salmon. Responsibilities include active and passive radio tagging, telemetry, Alaska freshwater fish ID, operation of research fishwheels, use of multibeam sonar, and fisheries data collection following established protocols. Beneficial skills include experience with boating, tools, machinery, carpentry, as well as the ability to thrive in the wilderness. The majority of work occurs outdoors at two well-established remote field sites. Travel, fieldwork, daily boat operation, and remote living for an extended period of time will be required.

Experience Requirement: Minimum two years of experience working in the biological sciences. Three months’ experience with remote field research, sampling and data collection. Must have boat operation experience.
Education Requirement: BS or BA in a scientific field, OR college student with a declared major in a science related field and minimum 2 year completed coursework, OR 2+ year work experience in fisheries or similar field. Relevant experience may be taken in lieu of education.
