Teaching The teaching workload for the Department Chair is 12 credit hours for the academic year and 3 credit hours during the summer semester (2-2-1). - Maintain a minimum of 4 physical office hours per week as indicated in course syllabi. - Perform advising duties typical of a full-time faculty member. Administrative The Division Chair meets with the Academic Dean regularly to establish and maintain long-term vision for the Division that is consistent with the mission and strategic plan of the College, assess the Division’s progress in meeting Division goals, and facilitate Division operations. The duties of the Division Chair will include aspects of scheduling, faculty affairs, and curriculum development and maintenance. The following are likely duties and will vary depending on the needs of the Academic Dean and the Division. Develops initial course schedule at all campuses for each academic term; revises and adapts the schedule as needed in consultation with the Academic Dean, Campus Deans, Advising Specialists, and other Department Chairs. Distributes schedule to full-time faculty for consideration; assigns courses to part-time faculty; negotiates and alters course assignments and teaching loads as needed in consultation with the Academic Dean; calculates and verifies workload for all full- and part-time faculty. Submits schedule and instructor assignments to Division Administrative Assistants for publication and entry into BANNER. Monitors course enrollments during registration periods; maintains statistics on numbers of course sections and average enrollments. Serves as the Part-Time Faculty Coordinator: recruits, screens, and hires part-time faculty; attends all part-time faculty orientations; trains, mentors, supervises, and evaluates part-time faculty Collaborates with full-time faculty and staff in establishing annual goals and objectives. Provides input to the Academic Dean on the promotion and tenure of full-time faculty. Assists the Academic Dean as needed in completing classroom evaluations and performance evaluations of full-time faculty. Coordinates with faculty to develop, revise, and evaluate curricula; reviews division courses to ensure compliance with USG and SACSCOC guidelines. Maintains updated master syllabi for division courses with assistance from full-time faculty. Performs duties related to:grade changes, catalog revisions, curriculum substitutions, textbook/software adoptions, add/drop approvals, credit-level academic exemption exams, etc. Coordinates and oversees assessment of division courses and pathways and ensures assessment deadlines are met. Oversees co-curricular activity development, undergraduate research initiatives, Honors program initiatives, and development of MOUs with outside units to facilitate student learning and/or student teaching projects. Manages aspects of any bachelor’s degree program as assigned by the Academic Dean. Processes and resolves student complaints; meets with students to resolve concerns about courses, faculty, and policies. Serves on committees as assigned. Other administrative duties as assigned by the Academic Dean
Qualifications Minimum of a Masters Degree in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Geology, or related field. Experience in Higher Education
