- Description
- The Wildlife Ecology Laboratory at Tennessee State University in Nashville Tennessee is seeking a Doctoral student to evaluate the impacts of urbanization and landscape disturbance on state Endangered Streamside Salamanders (Ambystoma barbouri) in Tennessee. Specifically, the student will conduct a multi-year study to evaluate to leverage a Before-After-Control-Impact study design to evaluate the efficacy of buffers to mitigate impacts of riparian disturbance on A. barbouri populations. The ideal candidate will have an interest in developing field and laboratory approaches to answer questions related to population and/or community ecology. In addition, the student will have opportunities to use environmental DNA approaches for population monitoring. Results from this study will be directly applicable to improving management protocols for the Streamside Salamanders in Tennessee.
- Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Biology, Wildlife Biology, Zoology, Environmental Sciences, Conservation Biology, or another closely related degree. The successful candidate must possess a passion for wildlife and herpetofaunal conservation research and be able to work in cold and wet conditions. The successful candidate will ideally have experience using radiotelemetry, R, and ArcGIS/ArcPRO. Financial support (stipend and full tuition waiver) will be provided as a research assistantship, which will be renewable contingent upon satisfactory performance. A positive attitude is a must.
