SWCA Environmental Consultants, Inc. provides a range of services including resource area mitigation, restoration, and remediation, ecological design, landscape architecture, environmental site assessment, resource identification, environmental planning and permitting. The Ecological Restoration group focuses on the restoration and enhancement of natural resource areas. This includes wetland mitigation, restoration and creation, as well as streambank restoration, and invasive plant management.
The Ecological Restoration Intern will work on a variety of projects types and associated tasks. Work will primarily involve physical activities associated with the restoration of resource areas. The intern will regularly participate in strenuous manual labor and must have the ability to work long hours in all types of weather conditions. Types of work to be performed include installation of plant material, invasive plant species management (chemical application and manual), and invasive plant monitoring and mapping. The intern will be required to apply for both Massachusetts and Connecticut Pesticide Licenses upon position award because much of the internship occurs within the invasive species management season.
The Ecological Restoration Intern must have at least: have experience working in a team-oriented environment, be able to travel and work outside in all weather, can effectively execute tasks, and conform to shifting priorities and demands. The following skills would be preferred, but are not necessary: GPS experience (Trimble, ArcGIS Collector, etc.) and the ability to identify native and invasive plant species.
