Northern Ecological Services is a full-service restoration and land management company based in northeastern Minnesota. Our work includes project design, consultation, installation, and project maintenance. Our customers are a mix of public agencies, businesses, and private landowners. Projects range from residential landscapes and solar gardens to larger stream restorations and wetland management. Our field crews perform native plant landscaping, erosion control, reforestation, restoration, invasive species management, as well as a variety of other work. Seeding, planting, installing erosion control materials, using hand tools, operating small power equipment, and herbicide application are all common. The work can involve heavy lifting and often involves repetitive tasks. We work outside and weather can impact us, but we do work in adverse conditions. Difficult terrain, bugs, and other things you would expect to find outside are common. Project locations range across Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, and some overnight travel is expected with the company providing hotels and a per diem. Typical hours are 7am-5pm Monday through Friday, but working outside of these hours as projects dictate is not uncommon. The field season usually runs from May through October with the beginning and end dates being dependent on weather and work load. The project manager position will be responsible for leading crews in the field. Interpreting project designs, plans, and maps and then making decisions based on that information will be required. Communication and coordination with supervisors, seasonal employees, other contractors, engineers, members of the public, and other parties is necessary. Project managers will work slightly longer hours than seasonal employees most days. The position is a year round salary expected to start in April. Work hours are somewhat typical during the peak season, but shorter and more varied in the off season.
