DESCO Environmental Consultants, LP (DESCO) offers a full suite of environmental services, from planning and permitting through project completion. Our services include, but are not limited to: environmentally conscious project planning; regulatory permitting and compliance (NEPA, CWA, NHPA, ESA, CERCLA, MBTA, etc.); habitat and impact assessments; threatened, endangered, and sensitive (TES) species surveys; wetland assessments, delineation, remediation, mitigation, and monitoring; ecological and vegetation data collection; vegetation sampling and mapping; cultural resources surveys; development of habitat conservation and management plans; compliance monitoring; fish impact assessments; marine mammal monitoring; and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis, among others. DESCO is seeking an Ecologist/Biologist who can provide field and technical support for oil and gas, transportation, utilities, and development projects. Responsibilities of this position include: • Conducting wetland delineations in accordance with USACE methodology to support Section 404/401 Clean Water Act permitting • Conducting threatened and endangered species assessments/surveys • Preparing field equipment, identifying and planning field logistics, providing oversight of survey implementation, and data management • Preparing complete and accurate field forms and technical reports summarizing field surveys/efforts • Assisting with preparation of Section 7 and NEPA documentation • Managing field projects and field personnel • Mentoring of junior team members and newly hired biologists/ecologists • Operating DESCO vehicles in a safe manner and following all required safety protocols • Traveling to remote locations for short and long durations
Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor of Science in a scientific discipline (e.g. biology, environmental science, ecology, botany, etc.) • Proficient at vegetation identification • Good technical writing skills, strong attention to detail, and computer literacy required • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and GPS programs • Strong life sciences background • Strong leadership skills • Strong work ethic and ability to get the job completed within tight timeframes and difficult conditions • Self-motivated individual • Physical ability to hike 10+ miles a day in tough terrain and harsh conditions carrying equipment weighing up to 40 pounds • Ability to work alone or with a team • Willingness to travel on short notice and work variable hours • Willingness to conduct field work for up to three weeks in a stint Preferred Qualifications: • 2+ years of field experience • TES species survey experience • Wetland delineation experience • Knowledge of and experience with oil and gas operations • GIS experience • Ability to drive a 4WD vehicle on rugged, unpaved roads and/or terrain To apply, please send resumes to
