Description
A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) is a national scientific services firm supporting maritime activities requiring certification of compliance with environmental regulations as well as collecting data for use by Federal, State, Municipal, and other government agencies along the US coastline. Primary Function: AIS is seeking three Ecologists to support Endangered Species Act (ESA) services in support the Washington Fish and Wildlife Office (WFWO). The WFWO implements a broad range of programs under the ESA and other Service authorities. These include reviewing the status of species to determine if they should be federally protected under the ESA; recovering candidate, threatened, and endangered species; conserving coastal areas; restoring natural resources injured by hazardous substances; conducting environmental reviews of federal projects; fostering conservation; and implementing voluntary habitat conservation and restoration projects. These ecological staff members would support the WFWO in carrying out its trust responsibilities for protected species, birds, fish, marine mammals and habitats. Collectively, the services provided will facilitate implementation of Service authorities and responsibilities and assist in achieving the objectives of conservation of trust species and their associated habitats. Duties/Responsibilities: • Conduct literature reviews. • Collect, compile, and analyze data • Draft responses, letters, reports, and reviews. • Evaluate the effect of proposed actions on species and habitats. • Conduct and document site visits. • Prepare draft Service documents, such as Letters of Concurrence, Biological Opinions, Environmental Action Statements, Species Status Assessments, formal correspondence, etc. • Enter data and conduct quality control reviews and querying databases to extract data or determine the status of actions. • Attend meetings, conferences, site visits. • Copy documents, compile records (including responses to Freedom of Information Requests and Administrative Records), organize and maintain filing systems (including electronic filing); • Conduct biological analysis of proposed actions. • Prepare maps and other geographical displays and analysis. • Scan files to a PDF format and filing or uploading to a FTP site and other services as required and necessary; • Provide meeting support including organizing meetings, find locations, assist participants, prepare materials and a variety of support services during the meeting itself; take meeting notes and other meeting products and outcomes • Evaluate the effectiveness of management decisions on species and habitats. • Prepare scientific and policy documents and review and edit written documents. • Collect information on species distribution and abundance, habitat quantity and quality and other information on natural resources, prepare documents summarizing and synthesizing the information. • Identify, evaluate and work to mitigate adverse impacts of proposed actions (e.g., dams, wind turbines, shoreline development, forest resource management, and other structures and development projects) on listed species and associated habitats. Minimum Qualifications: • College degree in biology, wildlife management, natural resource management, environmental science, or related field • At least 2 years of related work experience • Exceptional written and oral communication skills to maintain contact with staff, stakeholders, vendors and customers. • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in an efficient manner. • Demonstrate a systematic approach to problem solving to ensuring customer deliverables and employee support. • Excellent time management skills. • Proficient in MS Office Suite programs (excel, word, etc.).
