- POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY The Education & Outreach Assistant is a grant funded, regular, full-time, hourly employee serving the Pacific Conservation District (PCD) and Grays Harbor Conservation District (GHCD). This position is responsible to the District Board of Supervisors and is supervised by the Education and Outreach Coordinator. The Education & Outreach Assistant works with the Education & Outreach Coordinator and Assistant District Manager to implement the District’s outreach and education objectives in Pacific & Grays Harbor Counties. The districts’ education and outreach programs are currently co-managed by a common Education & Outreach Coordinator across both Districts. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Education & Outreach Assistant will have duties including: Board Meeting Coordination The Education & Outreach Assistant will learn and be responsible for OPMA Guidelines and Updates regarding public meetings Monthly coordination and distribution of district board meeting announcements, agendas, minutes, and materials for both CD’s. Volunteer Event Support The Education and Outreach Assistant will support the Education & Outreach Coordinator with volunteer events including but not limited to: Setup and teardown of tents and supplies Docenting during tabling sessions Participating and overseeing volunteers during events (such as tree plantings, invasive weed removal, & beach cleanups) K-12 Education Support The Education and outreach Assistant will support the Education & Outreach Coordinator with Educational Programming including but not limited to: Classroom presentations Field trips Special Events (for example the Regional Envirothon Competition) Website & Social Media Maintenance The Education and Outreach Assistant will support the Education & Outreach Coordinator with maintaining both District’s Social Media Pages This includes assisting with creation of social media posts on a consistent schedule Additionally, the Education and Outreach Assistant will support website maintenance for both Districts This includes keeping the ‘upcoming events’ calendars updated and making sure that important announcements are reflected on the site. SALARY/BENEFITS Starting at $18-20 / hour depending upon experience. - Qualifications
- REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • This is an entry level position, all levels of education will be considered but a preference will be given to a candidate that is pursuing a degree in environmental studies, education, communications, or a related field. • Demonstrated experience with public communications • Demonstrated experience with delivering educational programming • High level of literacy in all MS Office applications (Word, Excel are essential) • Ability to work with and oversee a team of volunteers • Experience with managing social media pages outside of personal use • A valid Washington State driver’s license is required. • Required to pass a Washington State Patrol Background Check upon hire and every 2 years thereafter. DESIRED SKILLS • The capacity to work with diverse individuals and groups and the ability to establish and maintain effective communication among all project partners. • Experience working with students grades K-12 • Environmental education experience is beneficial for this role • Demonstrated ability in coordinating, conducting, and facilitating meetings. • Strong organizational and written/verbal communication skills. • Ability to maintain accurate records.
