CITY OF COLORADO SPRINGS invites applications for the position of: SEASONAL -Education Technician SALARY: $2,080.00 - $2,600.00 Monthly DEPARTMENT: Parks, Rec & Cultural Svc OPENING DATE: 09/08/17 CLOSING DATE: 09/22/17 11:59 PM FLSA: Non-exempt position DESCRIPTION / POSITION OVERVIEW: This is an seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association). Dates of employment will be October through March. Normal work schedule will include various weekday and weekend shifts between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Total hours worked not to exceed 1,500 annually. Education Technician (50604) In this multi-faceted position, you will fulfill a variety of roles, including interpretation, environmental education, and public outreach. Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform: -Develop thematic programs and outreach materials meeting Colorado state education standards. -Present curricula-based K-12 education programs to a diverse population of students in their classrooms and at City (City of Colorado Springs) Regional Parks. -Represent the City at community and agency partner outreach events. -Work with local educators to convey the significance of the natural and cultural resources of the City's Regional Parks. -Serve as a liaison with schools, community groups, organizations, and agencies involved in environmental education or conservation related fields. -Use common word-processing, database, and graphic design software to produce education and outreach programs. -Schedule educational programs. -Maintain statistics on programs and interpretive contacts. -Maintain and develop interpretive cache and outreach items, including traveling trunks, nature packs, and junior ranger workbooks. -Create social media content. -Contact park visitors and communicate park regulations and stewardship philosophies. -Provide general park and facility maintenance and snow removal. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate: -Knowledge of modern office procedures and equipment, including computers and supporting software (especially Microsoft Excel and Outlook). -Ability to communicate and interact with students, volunteers, and the public. -Ability to create interpretive and outreach programming. -Ability to interpret Colorado state education standards. Successful candidate will: -Be at least 18 years of age. -Have college level coursework in natural resources, environmental studies, education, or liberal arts. -Possess or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license. Ideal candidates will also have: -Experience creating curricula-based environmental education programs within a park or school setting.
