This is a 4 month seasonal position working with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources’ Deer and Elk Program. Primary duties of the position will be to assist staff with the Department’s ongoing efforts to trap and translocate elk within the state, but other duties may be assigned.
Candidates should be prepared to work some weekends, irregular hours, and travel. Housing will be provided.
The successful candidate will have a valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and must work well both individually and in a team. An excellent work ethic is mandatory. B.S. in Wildlife Management, Wildlife Sciences or related biological sciences degree is desired.
Previous experience or training with chemical immobilization is desired, but not necessary. Experience in capturing, handling, and moving large animals is desired. Candidates must be able to traverse rough and mountainous terrain with equipment. Must be able to carry 25 lbs. of equipment several hundred yards. Must be able to run, climb, or otherwise protect self from wildlife such as elk and bear.
