SUMMARY: Tetra Tech is seeking an Entry-Level Environmental Biologist to provide support on various environmental projects in the Permian Basin of Texas and New Mexico. Experience in the oil and gas environmental industry is preferred, but not required. As a Biological Scientist, you will be responsible for carrying out the duties and responsibilities of an entry-level scientist/biologist. Candidate must be highly motivated, customer focused, safety oriented, and work well in a professional and team-oriented environment. Candidate must also have the ability to manage a heavy workload, travel, and be on-call as needed. Excellent written and verbal communication, client interaction and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks/clients, as well as proficiency with MS Office and Google Earth applications required.

• Wetland delineation;
• Field surveys, water quality assessments, species specific and general surveys, mitigation monitoring;
• Report writing, permit applications, plant community mapping, database management;
• Sediment control assessments and monitoring; and
• Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A MS degree in biology, wildlife or natural resources, or BS degree in biology, wildlife or natural resources with one to three years of experience is required. A strong background in environmental impact assessment, permitting, ecological field studies, and planning is preferred. Specialized expertise may be in environmental, terrestrial, wetland, or wildlife sciences. Must have demonstrated ability in field data collection and analysis, and technical writing. Experience in environmental consulting or related experience preferred. Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (TX and NM) preferred. Previous experience with project management, marketing, proposal preparation and client and regulatory interaction is helpful.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Candidate must be able and available to travel via land and/or air and possess a valid driver’s license in good standing. Some heavy lifting required, and the ability to walk/stand/sit for extended periods in areas of varied and uneven terrain are essential.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work will be split between the Midland, TX office and field. Field work will primarily be in West Texas and southeastern New Mexico area and overnight travel is required. Field work will be primarily outdoors, exposed to varying and extreme weather conditions, possibly wearing Flame Resistant Clothing. No relocation costs will be provided.

LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Strong oral and written communication/interpersonal skills are a must. .Applicants should be fluent in English and possess basic computer skills.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Applicant should possess basic math skills.

OTHER SKILLS: Applicants should possess the ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently with limited supervision. Computer Skills must include Microsoft Windows Word, Excel, and Google Earth. Experience with Geographical Information System software is considered a plus.
