Description
The Bald Head Island Conservancy (BHIC) is a non-profit environmental organization founded in 1983 on Bald Head Island, NC, to conserve local wildlife, monitor island ecosystems, and provide educational experiences to island visitors and residents. BHIC interns help to advance the Conservancy’s mission. The internship program is designed to provide young professionals with hands-on work experience at a small, environmental non-profit organization. Position Responsibilities -Assist with our newsletter, social media posts, creation and placement of flyers -Photography and video after hours, attend excavations, weekend, and evening events -Assist with weekly 5 K Turtle Trots, preparation, shirt packing, registration and clean up -Assist with our membership program, send packets, update database & turtle walk tracking -Work 1 Turtle Walk per week, hours are 9 pm to 12 am -Work the information desk of the Conservancy -Work on July 4th Fundraiser (raffle, ticket tracking, etc) -Internship project to be presented at completion of your internship -Administrative duties as needed Details: The internship will run from May 16- August 15, 2023. BHI Conservancy’s office is open from 8:30 am – 5 pm daily, the internship includes evening and weekend hours. Average work week is 50 hrs, with 1 day off per week. No exemptions or exceptions. Compensation: Interns will receive a stipend of $600 per month (pre-tax). Also provided are shared on campus living quarters in the BHI Conservancy dorm, utilities including wireless internet, parking for a vehicle at the Deep Point Marina, and a weekly ferry ticket for trips between the island and the mainland. Qualifications
-Rising junior, senior, or recent graduate from an accredited college or university -Self-directed, work within a team environment & excellent communication skills -Flexibility; potential crossover duties among other fields -Computer proficiency with knowledge of MS Office and Google applications -Ability to work in physically challenging environment including extreme heat -Must possess a valid Driver’s License, be able to lift 40 lbs, and pass a background check
