Position Details Insignia is looking to fill immediate openings for two Environmental Inspectors/Biological Monitors who embody Insignia’s vision to be our clients’ most trusted partner, always delivering excellence with integrity. These positions are full-time and can require working up to 12 hours per day for 5 days per week over a period of 12 months or more beginning in July 2022. The positions require work outdoors in desert habitats in California (near Blythe) or Arizona (near Ehrenberg) while monitoring construction activities. Job Description • Conduct preconstruction surveys for special-status species. • Inspect construction activities for compliance with environmental mitigation measures, permit conditions, and other environmental requirements. • Inspect for and document compliance with the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan under the direction of a Qualified SWPPP Practitioner. • Coordinate with construction contractors, project managers, and resource specialists as needed to address resource and compliance issues. • Prepare daily reports, inclusive of photographs documenting compliance and/or compliance issues. • Deliver crew-level environmental trainings. • Monitor for the presence of and potential impacts to sensitive species. • Facilitate conflict resolution.
Requirements • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in biology, ecology, botany, or a related science. • Two years or more of experience with construction monitoring in Arizona or California desert habitats. • One year or more of demonstrated experience with sensitive species, such as the desert tortoise, strongly preferred. • Previous approval to monitor for and/or handle desert tortoise preferred. • Two or more years of experience conducting environmental compliance monitoring on major utility infrastructure projects in California or Arizona. • Excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as confidence in dealing with clients, regulators, and team members. • Team-oriented and self-motivated. • Rigorously detail-oriented and committed to accuracy. Other • Valid driver’s license and good driving record. • Willingness and ability to travel when needed. • Willingness and ability to work fluctuating and/or long hours as necessary. • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. • Ability to walk and hike through varying degrees of difficult terrain while prioritizing safety. • Ability and willingness to perform job responsibilities in inclement weather conditions.
