Description
Reporting to the Director of the Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainability, the Environmental Science Coordinator will assist with the administration of activities and events of the National Science Foundation funded research project designed to engage African American undergraduate students in ecological and environmental Science STEM disciplines with a focus on projects that center on watershed scale environmental monitoring and stakeholder engagement. The Environmental Science Coordinator will assist with the logistical operations including purchasing and reservation scheduling for on and off campus activities for all students in those disciplines. Develop research groups for students for year-round participation on projects that center on watershed scale environmental monitoring and stakeholder engagement. Aids in all aspects of the project throughout the summer and academic year, including field and laboratory-based research activities. Assist with data management, aquatic field sampling (biotic and abiotic), leads, attends and participates in weekly/ monthly workshop meetings; develops preventative strategies and marketing tools for the project. Coordinates within agreed protocol to achieve objectives by being the liaison with other members. Interacts and communicates with immediate supervisor, employees, co-workers, students, faculty members, sales representatives, external researchers and the general public. Effectively communicates with staff, stakeholders, National Science Foundation participants and performs administrative support and other related duties as assigned. Assists in the operations of and working within the University urban greenhouses. Provides students with supplemental research materials and opportunities to support and enhance the students research experience. Assist with coaching student researchers in specific skills areas; embrace all relevant technology used in data organization, data analysis; and publishing reports. Ensures students complete and comply with the University’s Institutional Review Board requirements for student research.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in a STEM program or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to foster collaborative relationships with clients and colleagues of diverse backgrounds. Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Suite products. Familiarity with various technological devices (i.e., computers, tablets, etc.) are preferred. Finalists for this position are subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background investigation including criminal history and identity check.
