- Job Description and Duties - Are you interested in helping the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) conserve and protect marine resources while working on the offshore renewable energy? CDFW is looking for an individual to use their skills and knowledge about marine resources and habitats to help in conservation, planning, and coordination on offshore renewable energy. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with a team of scientists in the Environmental Review and Water Quality Project as well as multiple other functions of the Marine Region and CDFW. Working within CDFW's Marine Region, evaluate potential impacts of proposed offshore renewable energy projects and activities on marine resources; including fish, plant, wildlife and habitats in ocean, bay, estuarine,shoreline areas. The position will provide assistance on determining impacts to California Endangered Species Act (CESA)-listed species, sensitive habitats, and Marine Protected Area’s as a result of proposed offshore renewable energy projects which will include collaborating with multiple other agencies and partners. You will review and draft comments on a variety of CEQA and NEPA documents, state and federal permits, monitoring programs and work plans. Represent CDFW on state marine spatial planning activities for offshore renewable energy and collaborate on the development of measures to protect and maintain fish, plant, and wildlife habitats and populations. You will participate in research and offshore wind information sharing activities as they pertain to CDFWs trustee agency role. Coordinate and communicate with commercial and recreational fisheries stakeholders and California’s Tribes and Tribal Communities to fill fisheries and habitat data needs and data gaps for offshore renewable energy planning. In coordination with other Department functions local, state, and federal agency partners, you will perform data analysis, research, synthesis, and evaluation for proposed offshore renewable energy. This is a permanent full time position that is a part of CDFW's Marine Region and will be located in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, West Sacramento, or Monterey. Working Conditions - The position requires the use of a keyboard and computer for several hours each day, sitting for prolonged periods and the completion of office tasks that require sitting, standing, and walking to other locations; attendance at meetings both in person and online and participation in conference calls. The position may require travel throughout the state including overnight travel, early mornings, late nights, occasional work on a boat at sea, and along the coastline in, at times, inclement weather. A valid driver's license is required to drive to meetings and field sites. The position may require the incumbent to wear a uniform identifying the employee as Department staff. *Office locations considered: West Sacramento, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, or Santa Barbara. Given the duties for this position is location specific for the Central and Southern California. - Education: Possession of a bachelor's or advanced degree with a major in a biological, chemical, physical, or environmental science, soil science, water science, hydrology, agronomy, natural resource science, environmental or public health, physical geography, or a closely related scientific discipline.
