- The Rolling Plains Quail Research Foundation (RPQRF) is seeking a full time Executive Director to oversee its mission. The RPQRF’s mission is ‘To preserve Texas’ heritage of wild quail hunting for this, and future, generations.’ To that end, our organization is dedicated to better understanding land management, advancing wildlife science, and engaging with private landowners in Texas and beyond to facilitate quail conservation. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit. At the core of the Foundation is a 4,820-acre ranch that serves as a both research laboratory and demonstration site. A newly constructed headquarters complex has lodging, meeting space, storage, and laboratory suited for research and outreach activities. The ranch is supported by seasonal staff and a land manager. Additionally, the RPQRF employs a director of outreach, a program and communication coordinator, and a research biologist to support its mission. A Board of Directors provides oversight and guidance to the organization and will work closely with the Executive Director. Candidates for this position should have demonstrated experience in leadership, fiscal management, donor relations, personnel management, and a passion for natural resources. A professional background in wildlife or natural resources is welcomed, but not essential. This position will provide an opportunity for significant conservation achievements and the Foundation desires growth and broad conservation impacts.
- Qualifications
- Preferred Education: M.S. in Wildlife, Business Administration, Marketing, or similar fields Required Experience: Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and administration for a non-profit foundation. Preferred Experience: Five years minimum experience of demonstrated success in dealing with grantors, donors, staff, and a Board of Directors. Knowledge of, and experience with, wildlife conservation issues preferred. Required Special Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency with written and verbal communication skills, budgeting, proposal development, donor relations, and supervision of professional staff. Passion for quail, quail habitat, and hunting. Preferred Special Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: MBA, non-profit experience. Demonstrated ability to seek collaborations with other conservation partners and relevant state- or federal agencies. Other Requirements or Other Factors: Must be able to communicate and work alongside various stakeholders (including volunteers non-government organizations, state agencies); considerable travel (some overnight) required. Proficiency in commonly used computer software (e.g., MS Office) required. Knowledge of accounting principles desirable. Must have a valid driver’s license. Job Duties: • Coordinate fundraising to support the mission of the Foundation; • Provide leadership and support to staff to include annual performance appraisals; • Communicate with stakeholders; • Develop an annual budget and work plan to be approved by the Board of Directors each year; • Build partnerships with other NGOs and universities to advance the mission of RPQRF; • Develop program updates and submit annual operating grants; • Ensure the research agenda is mission oriented; • Supervise operations, disbursement of funds, hiring and firing of staff, entering contracts for RPQRF, and responsible for the legal and ethical operation of RPQRF; • Evaluate organizational structure and develop the staffing to carry out the vision of RPQRF; • Serve as a non-voting member of the Board of Directors; • Work with a 3rd party accountant to oversee onboarding, reconciliations (including uploading statements and reviewing accounts payable and receivable), 401k, and insurance (health, liability, vehicle, workers compensation, etc.); • Assist the Board in developing a strategic plan with the assistance of third-party counsel; • Assist in a development capacity for capital and endowment campaigns. Place of Residence: Flexible, but within 3 hours travel (preferred) of Abilene, TX; no housing for this position is available (full time) on the Ranch.
