Description
Audubon’s Wings internship program invites undergraduate and graduate students to help shape a healthy environment and vibrant future for birds – and all of us who share the planet with them. Audubon Dakota currently has an opportunity for you to expand your wings through our Conservation Outreach internship. In this position, you will work closely with Audubon Dakota’s staff to relay outreach and educational programs to a wide audience from school to college-age students. This part time internship opportunity, 30 hours per week with flexible hours, is available September, 2017 through December, 2017 (flexible), and reports to the Operations and Outreach Assistant. The Conservation Outreach Intern will contribute to the development and implementation of ecological education for Audubon Dakota. Through this position, you will not only gain a deeper understanding of natural topics, but also improve skills in public speaking, presenting educational materials, and developing a relationship between Audubon, local entities, and community members. This will also allow you to become familiar with the workings of a non-profit organization. Essential Functions: Responsibilities: -Contribute to the development of nature programming and outreach. -Perform and implement outreach to local schools and other community groups to encourage nature-based education and promote Audubon Dakota’s regional projects. -Coordinate and lead volunteers in habitat restoration-based projects and educational opportunities. -Build a relationship between Audubon Dakota and local schools and other non-profits interested in outreach. -Other administrative tasks may be asked as they arise.
Qualifications
-Enrollment in a biology, ecology, natural resources, or other relevant bachelor or graduate degree program. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills. -Organizational skills and attention to detail are highly desired. -Proficient with Microsoft Office. -Flexible with tasks or the ability to multi-task when asked. -Enthusiastic and willing to take on tasks with a positive approach. -Some travel within North and South Dakota and weekend work may be required.
