As a Bushy Hill Farm Hand, the individual will be asked to be the minimum age of 16 years old and be asked to aid in everyday cleanliness, maintenance, and feeding of the farm. This is an unpaid internship to benefit the individual filling the role, and the candidate can receive community service/volunteer hours. The candidate will also be asked to keep up with any new and improved ways of aiding the animals in their ways of living. As Farm Hand, you are not guaranteed work on a weekly basis, and will be given as much advanced notice as possible or will be “on call”. The programming hours may vary per week and can be scheduled throughout the week however necessary under the direction of a Director. The candidate can be asked to fill other hours if needed. Lastly, the individual may be asked to teach about the animals within some of the Nature Center’s programs.
The Farm Hand is asked to come in and have three training days where they shadow and observe previous Farm Workers, then a fourth day for one of our Directors to shadow them. After this fourth day, the candidate is done with their probation period and may continue to work on their own relaying information that relates to our programs. A Farm Hand is subject to multiple and random evaluation days where Directors will oversee their work. This individual is to report directly to the Nature Center Directors. Also, they are asked to train any persons that will be aiding in the care of the farm or taking over the position in a timely manner. General Maintenance and overall cleanliness of Farm
Animal Care and Handling
Production of and Implementation of Enrichment Devices
Minimum age : 16
Able to lift and maneuver 50+lbs
Must have transportation and housing. Transportation and Housing not provided by the organization.
