Description
Woodlands Conservancy is a non-profit land trust organization protecting and restoring 840 acres of forested wetlands in the Greater New Orleans area. We are seeking a field biologist to participate in forest restoration activities within 840-acres of forested wetlands within the Greater New Orleans area. This is part of an ongoing effort to reduce non-native invasive vegetation and reforest with native seedlings and trees. The Field Biologist will conduct spot herbicide application to non-native, invasive vegetation within a forested wetland environment, conduct and supervise planting activities, record GPS location of planted trees, maintain planted plots, remove fallen invasive trees, assist with vegetation surveys, summarize treatment data and planting data in a mapping program and other associated activities as needed. Planting activities with volunteers often occur on weekends and thus some weekend work will be required. The work will occur within a 190-acre forested wetland in Orleans parish and a 649-acre forested wetland in Plaquemines Parish. The position pays $17/hour. Work is anticipated to begin December 01, 2021 and end May 15, 2023.
