Fred Phillips Consulting (FPC) is looking for crew members for a planting project in Petrified Forest. This is paid work and includes training opportunities for Northern Arizona rangeland management and restoration. It will be two weeks long. Crew members will work 40 hours per week for 2 weeks (80 hours total for the job) and will be required to camp at Petrified park headquarters during the weekdays. Crew will not be paid for weekend time spent at camp. FPC specializes in awarding winning design including ecological restoration, parks, trails, wetland delineation, and environmental monitoring and compliance. Candidates for this position will be working in Petrified Forest to restore native plants and habitat. This position will include (but not be limited to) the following duties:
• project site preparation, including vegetation removal and site grading;
• collection and propagation of native plants from local sites;
• installation of plants following design plans and strict specifications;
• back-country hiking with heavy packs to access project sites and plant material.

FPC will provide 10 days per diem at $30/day allowance and will pay for camping fees during the work week. If wanted Crew Members will be responsible for finding their own lodging, transportation and meals on 2 day weekends, but will be allowed to stay at the base camp in the park free of charge. Field Crew Members are expected to provide their own transportation to and from Petrified Forest, at the start of the project, and the start of each work week. FPC will provide transportation to field sites during the week within the Park, and all hand tools necessary for completing the work. Candidates will be required to camp at remote locations during field work due to the location of the project. Crew Members will need to provide their own camping gear to use during the week. Some additional basecamp amenities will be provided, including a basecamp shelter and full basecamp kitchen.
Successful candidates must be able to work in remote locations in challenging conditions, and work as part of a team. Experience with hand tools, manual labor, and field work is a must. Experience with chainsaws is a preferred. Experience with heavy machinery operation and native plant propagation a plus.
