Description
We are seeking a field research coordinator to assist with several research projects and coordinate avian surveys and automated acoustic recordings throughout Illinois. The successful candidate would assist with the capture and radio-tracking of American golden-plovers during migration and assist with several ongoing studies involving the demography of shrubland and forest birds. Starting in mid-May, the primary duties would be to coordinate and conduct surveys of birds at locations previously surveyed in 1907, 1957, and 2007. We will use automated acoustic recorders to record the soundscape at these points and work with professional photographers to document the areas. This position will require good organizational and bird identification skills. Expected start date is late March or early April and extend into August. The successful candidate will primarily be supervised by Dr. Mike Ward but work with a number of collaborators and graduate students. The rate of pay is $14 to $16 per hour
Qualifications
BS degree in wildlife management, ecology, or a related discipline. Applicants should demonstrate a strong interest in working with non-game birds and possess relevant research experience. Training or experience with radio telemetry and avian surveys using sight and song is preferred. The applicant should demonstrate excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
