- Austin Peay State University (Clarksville, TN) is hiring a technician for a 3-month position beginning in early May 2021 on a project assessing habitat use of tri-colored bats on Fort Campbell Army Base. The position will include multiple tasks such as roost tree identification, habitat assessment, tracking tagged bats, acoustic monitoring, and forage surveys (insect sampling). The technician will be working with three graduate students and have the opportunity to mist-net bats if interested, but mist netting will not be required of the position. The position will be a 29-hour workweek and may require working on weekends. Field truck, field gear, and PPE will be provided; housing and insurance not provided. If interested in bat handling, rabies vaccine will also be provided. Position dates are beginning of May through end of August, with flexible start/end dates.
- Qualifications
- Must be able to identify southeastern trees by sight. Must have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, enjoy working long hours in a hot, humid, and insect-ridden environments, have excellent communication skills, and be in good physical condition. Must possess a valid driver’s license and pass driving record check. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience with radio telemetry and/or acoustic surveys.
