Positions in this series manage, supervise and participate in wildland fire suppression; fire prevention and education; presuppression; equipment and facility maintenance; and forestry and fire law enforcement. Assist the Forestry Program Manager - Fire to ensure that the components of the divisions Wildland Fire Protection Program are managed and operated in an efficient, accurate and safe manner consistent with State, federal and division regulations, policies and procedures.
The position will supervise assigned personnel to include Firefighters and Seasonal Firefighters. This position also manages, supervises, and participates in wildland fire suppression, natural disasters and other emergencies as dispatched. This includes applying the principles of the ICS on incidents of moderate to high complexity; exercise scene management; evaluate complex situations and request appropriate additional resources; provide firefighting training to assigned personnel and cooperators; inspect, test, and ensure proper operation of all firefighting equipment within a company; maintain records and prepare reports; and read and interpret fire prevention and defensible space inspections. The incumbent will communicate effectively both orally and in writing; must have the ability to speak to groups and provide public education presentations; and apply principles of fire prevention, inspection, and investigation.
Associate's degree in fire science or closely related field and three years of firefighting experience; OR Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of firefighting experience; OR one year as a Firefighter II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Incumbents must be qualified as a NWCG Firefighter 1 (FFT1) or higher, and Engine Single Resource Boss (ENGB) at time of application. To verify these eligibility requirements for this position, a copy of your Red Card, or equivalent, MUST be attached to application at time of submittal.
Incumbents must pass a work capacity test at the arduous level prior to appointment and for continued employment. The test consists of a three (3) mile walk, carrying a forty-five (45) pound pack, in less than forty-five (45) minutes.
