- This is a Fish Biologist position with the Native Village of Eyak (NVE) Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) conducting population monitoring and research on adult Chinook and Sockeye salmon on the Copper River and Klutina River, Alaska. Responsibilities include leading a field-crew of fish technicians at one of three remote research camps (Klutina River, or Copper River at Wood Canyon and Baird Canyon), assist in maintaining crew safety and morale, communication with offsite management, field site maintenance, and managing data collection efforts following established protocols (e.g. handling large adult salmon, tagging, telemetry, operation of research fishwheels, inclined plane traps, use of multibeam sonar, data QC). The applicant should have a strong scientific background and experience leading a field-based crew, swift water boat operation, motor maintenance, carpentry, and possess the ability to thrive in the wilderness. The majority of work occurs outdoors at well-established remote field sites (up to 3 positions available). See link for full job description.
