JOB DUTIES: Collect, process, summarize and interpret fish population data and angler harvest data; evaluate physical, chemical and biological characteristics of fish habitats following Fisheries Division sampling guidelines and using accepted scientific and statistical procedures. Collect and analyze data for formulation of management plans and development of specific lake, reservoir, river and stream goals and objectives. Plan and implement aquatic habitat improvement projects on district waters. Assist with fish stocking and in collection of brood stock fish for production purposes. Assist with AIS inspections, specimen collections, and vegetation treatments. Decontaminate equipment as needed and requested. Provide technical assistance of fisheries habitat enhancement techniques and fish management to lake associations, clubs, and private water owners. Prepare technical reports and maintain records. Perform related work as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Extensive knowledge of fishery management principles; life history and habitat needs of fish species; research, statistics, and record keeping systems; and Game Law statutes and regulations as they relate to fisheries management. Ability to conduct statistical data analyses, manipulate and manage large databases, communicate effectively; set goals and objectives; perform heavy physical labor and work outdoors for long periods of time; be physically able to effectively net fish from electrofishing boat; be able to lift at least 50 lbs; complete certification for chemical applications; operate and maintain boats, motors, nets and electrofishing gear; work with little supervision; develop and maintain professional relations with a broad range of agencies and publics.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND three years experience in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field; OR Master's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND one year experience in fish and wildlife management or a closely related field.
