Description
Plan and conduct systematic inventories and ecological studies of priority animal species and their habitats. Compile information from field surveys and various other sources on the occurrence, habitats, biology and ecological requirements of species of concern. Analyze data and information to document the status, habitats, ecology and distribution of animal species of concern and to identify significant habitats and landscapes for managing native animal diversity. Develop reports and information summaries that contribute to effective decision-making and on-the-ground resource management. Provide information and expertise to resource managers, environmental analysts, and conservation planners, both within Commission and at partner agencies and organizations. Develop strategies and implement projects to expand the breadth and utility of the Program's faunal data and our capacity to inform conservation and management activities. Develop and implement work plans and budgets, track expenditures, and complete reports and other objectives on time and within budget. Maintain an effective communication network with zoologists, wildlife biologists, professors, and students in Nebraska, the region, and the Heritage Program network, fostering information exchange and collaboration.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of the fauna of Nebraska, particularly imperiled species. Thorough knowledge of field inventory, monitoring, research design, and sampling methods. Willingness and ability to conduct field surveys for extended periods, often under harsh field conditions. Experience with a variety of computer applications, including spreadsheet, database, word processing, statistical, and GIS software. Ability to plan, implement, and successfully complete projects on time and within budget, and to produce professional quality reports. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex projects and to work efficiently in a busy office environment. Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Experience securing funding for projects highly desirable. Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS: Post high school coursework/training with major coursework in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field of biological science plus four years' experience in fish or wildlife resource management or master's degree plus two years' experience; or Ph.D. plus one year of experience. *Apply online at www.governmentjobs.com
