The Hayspur Fish Hatchery is seeking a 3-5 month temporary Biological Aide (non-benefited) to assist with spawning, rearing, and stocking of Rainbow Trout and Brook Trout. Incumbent will also assist with numerous research projects including a YY male Brook Trout program and an all-female Rainbow Trout production program. Join the exciting and dynamic Idaho Fish & Game fisheries team. Housing is provided to incumbent free of cost. Hayspur Fish Hatchery is located on 30 miles from Sun Valley, Idaho and nearby public lands provide endless outdoor recreational activities (hunting, fishing, hiking, backpacking, etc.). With or without reasonable accommodations, the incumbent must be able to perform routine fish rearing duties at a resident fish hatchery. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: weighing fish feed and feeding fish; cleaning rearing units; maintaining grounds and equipment; crowding and netting fish; loading fish hauling trucks; assisting in the spawning of Rainbow trout and Brook Trout; distributing Rainbow Trout. This position involves standing and working in cold water and for up to eight hours per shift; lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout a day; and working in extreme weather conditions.
Demonstrated ability to handle responsibility, work in a team environment and independently as needed. Applicants must be well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, responsible, and safety conscious. Course work in a Natural Resource/Biological Science is strongly preferred but not mandatory. Previous fish hatchery experience is a plus, but not required. Candidates with course work and/or previous experience will be given preference. Must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and be able to compute simple math. Dormitory style housing is available on station free of charge.
