About the Position Mackay Fish Hatchery sits at the base of Idaho’s tallest mountains and serves as a production facility responsible for rearing about 110,000 catchable trout and 2.5 - 3.5 million fingerling trout. Species produced include: Rainbow Trout, Henrys Lake Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout, Snake River Fine Spotted Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout, Kokanee, Brook Trout, Tiger Trout (Brook x Brown) and Westslope Cutthroat Trout. Fish raised at the Mackay Fish Hatchery are stocked statewide. The hatchery also produces Arctic Grayling and Golden Trout for high mountain lake stocking programs in central Idaho. The Mackay Fish Hatchery is seeking one temporary Fisheries Biological Aide (non-benefited) to perform routine duties associated with fish culture and help maintain hatchery grounds and facilities. Start and end dates are flexible. Responsibilities Routine duties are, but not limited to : weighing fish feed and feeding fish; cleaning and caring for fish in rearing units; data collection; sampling fish; maintaining hatchery grounds and equipment; operating landscaping equipment; pressure washing raceways; cleaning offices and hatchery facilities.
General Information Incumbents must, with or without reasonable accommodations, be able to stand and work in adverse weather conditions, sometimes working in cold water for up to eight hours per shift, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, work all shifts including a weekend rotation and some holidays. Dormitory style housing is provided on site, but not mandatory. Most work days are from 8:00am to 4:30pm and generally 40 hours per week. Qualifications/ Skills Needed Applicants must be able to work well in a team environment and independently as needed, take direction and follow protocols effectively. Applicants must be well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, responsible, and safety conscious. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
