Fisheries Biological Aide - Trap Tender Summer Satellite Powell (1 position available) Location: Clearwater Fish Hatchery, Ahsahka, ID Salary: $10.95 per hour, Benefitted, 40 hours per week Dates Needed: MAY 23, 2021 – DECEMBER 18, 2021 START DATES ARE TENTATIVE AND FLEXIBLE Responsibilities Extended travel and consecutive overnight stays in a remote location will be required for this position. This position involves standing and working in cold water for up to eight hours per shift; lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; and working in extreme weather conditions. Trap tender will be responsible for handling adult Chinook salmon that enter the fish ladder and will need to be able to independently take data on each fish that enters the trap. Working some weekends and holidays is required. With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbent must be able to perform routine fish rearing duties at anadromous species fish hatchery. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: weighing fish feed and feeding fish; cleaning raceways; maintaining grounds and equipment; crowding and netting fish; loading and unloading trucks; assisting in the spawning of steelhead and Chinook Salmon; distributing Rainbow trout.
Qualifications/Skills Needed Demonstrated ability to handle responsibility, working independently, and adapt to new situations strongly preferred. Familiarity with working in remote locations and/or with adult fish is preferred but not required for this position. Course work in a Natural Resource/Biological Science is strongly preferred but not mandatory. Previous fish hatchery experience a plus, but not required. Candidates with course work and/or previous experience will be given preference. Must be at least 18 years of age. Dormitory style housing is available on station free of charge.
