About the position Idaho Dept. of Fish and Game (Clearwater Region) is seeking a temporary Fisheries Biological Aide (non-benefited) to work as part of it's resident fisheries management crew. This is a 3 month position that will run from May 20 - August 16, 2019. Start/end dates have some flexibility. General Information: Work in beautiful north-central Idaho on a fisheries management crew! Conduct resident fish surveys on regional lakes and rivers to assist with the management of these fisheries for recreational fishing opportunities and the long-term conservation of Idaho’s natural resources. Crew schedule will be highly variable with weekend and holiday work required. Responsibilities: In 2018, we will be focusing on small reservoir management in 10 regional reservoirs. Duties will consist of boat electrofishing and netting surveys, limnology and zooplankton sampling, vegetation and habitat surveys, conducting creel surveys (interviewing anglers) at regional reservoirs, tagging fish for angler exploitation surveys, teaching children to fish, operation and basic maintenance of department trucks, boats, and other sampling equipment, and data entry. Work schedule will be highly variable with weekend and holiday work required.
Qualifications
Minimum one year of college in fisheries, biology, or related studies, or equivalent in training and experience preferred. A valid driver’s license is required. With or without reasonable accommodations, applicants must be able to work in extreme weather, handle live and dead fish, hike long distances in extremely rough terrain while carrying a 40-50 lb. pack, stand/work in cold water for up to 10 hours per day, work underwater using snorkeling equipment, and lift/carry equipment up to 60 lbs for short distances. Experience with operating and towing boats up to 20', and backing boats down boat ramps is preferred.
