STATE OF WYOMING invites applications for the position of: ATAW99-07380-Contract Fisheries Biologist-Green River SALARY: $21.17 - $21.17 Hourly LOCATION: Green River OPENING DATE: 12/04/17 CLOSING DATE: Continuous DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTIONS: Open Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Coordinate and supervise a native fish survey to document the presence and abundance of Roundtail Chub and other fish species in the Blacks Fork drainage of Southwest Wyoming. The biologist will be responsible for planning and implementing the project, supervising technicians, and writing a final report. This is a contract position funded from May 1, 2018 to February 28, 2019. The objectives of the project are to: 1) assess the distribution, relative abundance, and short-term movements of Roundtail Chub in the Blacks Fork, Muddy Creek, and Hams Fork drainages, 2) assess the current distribution and relative abundance of Burbot in the Blacks Fork, Muddy Creek, and Hams Fork drainages, and 3) collect and analyze Burbot stomach contents to assess their impact on native fish. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level. •Develop a sampling plan to investigate the presence and relative abundance of Roundtail Chub and Burbot in the Blacks Fork, Muddy Creek, and Hams Fork drainages. •Perform as lead for up to 4 technicians to sample fish with passive and active gears throughout the study area. •Collect accurate data, tag Roundtail Chub, remove invasive species, and collect and analyze stomach samples from Burbot. •Maintain a positive attitude and cohesive crew while conducting intensive field work. •Compile and analyze data and produce a final report for the Department. QUALIFICATIONS: PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: Preference will be given to those with a Master's degree in fisheries management, ecology, ichthyology, biology, natural resources management, or another closely related field OR a Bachelor's degree in one of the previously mentioned fields PLUS at least two years field experience. Those with at least two years experience managing field crews and collecting fisheries data. Those with experience identifying fish native to the Colorado/Green River Basin. KNOWLEDGE: •Experience with Colorado/Green River Basin fish identification. •Ability to safely operate and troubleshoot electrofishing equipment. •Experience with designing and following sampling protocols. •Skilled in the use of computer software and hardware, including GIS, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing. •Must have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to work well with others in a team setting. •Good physical condition and ability to work in the field in remote areas for extended periods of time, often in adverse conditions. •Excellent decision-making ability, leadership skills, oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: None - See "Preferences" NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: •May work and camp in the field with coworkers for up to 8 days at a time. •Will work a variable schedule (including long hours and weekends, as needed). •Will be required to lift heavy loads and move gear to sampling sites. •Required to drive a 4WD truck and trailer in rough terrain.
