Description
This position will expose the incumbent to various aspects of cold-water fish culture and facility maintenance at a fish hatchery. The Yellowstone River Trout Hatchery is a brood facility that is responsible for producing Yellowstone cutthroat, Arctic grayling and Golden trout for the state of Montana. For 2023, we will be conducting some wild spawning operations for all three species. We will also be stocking our annual fish in Montana waters throughout the summer and early fall. The incumbent will be responsible for maintenance projects at the facility as well. These projects will include painting, pruning, mowing & trimming hatchery lawns, possibly some landscaping, tree removal and general building maintenance. Some weekend work may be involved as well. Qualifications
SKILLS, ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE NEEDED (EDUCATION; UNDERGRAD/GRAD LEVEL, SUGGESTED/REQUIRED MAJORS): Prefer students who are majoring in Fish and or Wildlife Management. Must be majoring in a Natural Resource / Biological Sciences field. Student must be willing to work outdoors at times in inclement weather for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to work both cooperatively with others as well as work independently without constant supervision. Must have a desire and willingness to learn on the job. The Yellowstone River Trout Hatchery is located in Big Timber, Montana which is 61 miles East of Bozeman, Montana and 81 miles West of Billings, Montana. No housing is available on site. A camper trailer may be available to use as temporary housing during the duration of the internship
