STATE OF WYOMING invites applications for the position of: ATTP99-08653-Fisheries or Herpetology Technicians (3)-Laramie or Green River SALARY: $14.82 - $14.82 Hourly LOCATION: Laramie OPENING DATE: 07/10/18 CLOSING DATE: Continuous DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTIONS: Open Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Positions are available immediately and are anticipated to run through end of October. Seasonal positions (up to 3) will assist with surveys for fish, reptiles and/or amphibians in ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level. •Fisheries duties will be variable and may include electrofishing, netting, stream/habitat surveys, data entry, and equipment maintenance as well as other routine fisheries management tasks. •Herpetology duties include using a variety of sampling techniques (visual encounter surveys, auditory surveys, hoop nets, funnel traps, dipnets, driving transects, etc.) to survey for herpetofauna throughout the state. •Experience working in the field, conducting biological surveys, and collecting field data. •Must be able to pay close attention to detail and be able to record accurate data in all situations. •Will be required to record detailed biological data in the field. •Will be required to camp and work in remote areas with limited or no cell phone coverage. •Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends when necessary. •Will be required to enter data from field surveys. QUALIFICATIONS: PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: Preference will be given to those who are seeking a career in fisheries or herpetology. High school degree plus experience in fish and wildlife resource management, research, or college course work towards a degree in fishery or wildlife management, ichthyology, hydrology, watershed science or other closely related field. Positions are intended to provide valuable experience for individuals seeking a fisheries career. **Must have a valid driver's license. KNOWLEDGE: •Ability to navigate with a global positioning system (GPS). •Ability to operate a 4WD vehicle, on or off road. •Must have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and be able to work well with others in a team setting. •Ability to work well in close quarters with a field crew for extended periods of time. •Must be reliable, in good physical condition, have great communication skills, and be able to work independently and in remote locations. •Ability to work in inclement weather. •Must be able to spend long periods of time in a vehicle and in the field. •Experience pulling campers, trailers, etc. preferable. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: None - See "Preferences" NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: •May work and camp in the field (or stay in a hotel) with coworkers for up to 8 days at a time. •Will work a variable schedule (including long hours, weekends, and nights, as needed) that may change with little notice. •Extensive travel across the state is required. •May be required to backpack in rough, mountainous terrain and carry a heavy pack (50lbs or more) up to 10 miles in a day. •May be required to work, camp, and backpack in grizzly bear country.
