The Wisconsin Cooperative Fishery Research Unit is seeking 3-5 fisheries research technicians who will assist WICFRU research scientists and graduate students on projects evaluating: 1) spatial variation in lake whitefish recruitment in Green Bay and Lake Michigan; 2) walleye and yellow perch recruitment in northern Wisconsin lakes; 3) smallmouth bass recruitment in Green Bay; 4) lake sturgeon recruitment in the Lake Winnebago System; and 5) lake whitefish and smallmouth bass movement in Green Bay and Lake Michigan. The scope of these positions includes fyke net, gill net, and electrofishing surveys; larval fish, zooplankton, and macroinvertebrate collection and identification; processing aging structures and diet samples; and maintaining boats, motors, and other field equipment. Duties will require extensive field work that will include working in poor weather conditions (cold and wet). Duties may require extended travel and overnight stays. The fisheries research technicians may have the opportunity to contribute to other additional research projects focused on walleye, muskellunge, lake sturgeon, and lake whitefish.
- B.S. in Fisheries or closely related field - Experience with fyke nets, gill nets, or electrofishing - Experience processing larval fish or zooplankton samples - Experience operating and maintaining boats, motors, and field equipment - A satisfactory driving record as defined by UW-Stevens Point Transportation Services policy 6.1-6.3 (an unsatisfactory includes, but is not limited to three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years, an Operation While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within 12 months, or suspension or revocation of driver’s license) To apply: Send cover letter, CV/resume, contact information for 3 professional references, and unofficial transcripts to Dan Dembkowski (
