DURATION: Start date and end dates are flexible but the position is anticipated to run from mid-March through mid-November. Strong candidates only available from May – August may be considered.
DUTIES: Assists Regional Resource Management staff with fisheries management activities on Harry S. Truman Reservoir and other lakes, streams and priority watersheds in Benton, Henry, Bates, St. Clair and Vernon counties. Duties could include assisting with fish population and community sampling, placement of fish attractors, aquatic vegetation management including the use of herbicides to control nuisance vegetation, age and growth of several fish species, special fishing events, private landowner pond and stream management, landowner cooperative projects, equipment repair and maintenance, data entry and processing, occasional forestry and wildlife management activities, and other duties as required. Duties may require individual to wear appropriate PPE and follow safety protocols. During the non-field season, regular duties may require the candidate to work stationary at a desk for most of the day.
QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred candidates will be at least 18 years of age and currently pursuing or have a Bachelor’s Degree in a fisheries or related field. All candidates must have a positive attitude. Willing to work long hours outdoors in inclement weather. Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs. Fisheries sampling experience is desirable. Experience operating a boat and backing a trailer preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Able to work occasional evening, night, and weekend assignments. Must have experience with or able to learn computer programs including: Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Successful applicant must pass a pre-employment drug test.
