- Get away from the hustle and bustle and join us in our beautiful remote location on Afognak Island, Kodiak, AK. Gain hands on experience with four different species of Pacific salmon (pink, chum, coho, sockeye) and learn how Alaskan hatcheries operate and the role they play in Alaskan fisheries. Duties include a variety of remote salmon hatchery tasks relating to adult salmon handling and egg collection, incubation and egg care, brood collection, cost recovery, and general facility upkeep. - Qualifications
- An interest or experience in fisheries, biology or related field. Maintenance or boat operation experience is desirable but not required. Employees must be physically fit and capable of lifting and carrying 50 pounds for distances of up to 100 yards. This is a blue-collar type of position and can be labor intensive. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, work cooperatively in groups, or individually with little supervision. Must be capable of living in a remote setting with limited amenities.
